History

Ethiopia

Ethiopia

Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa and the world. The country that comprises of more than 80 ethnic groups is the second most populated country next to Nigeria with more than 100 million populations. Unique among African countries, Ethiopia has never been colonized, one exception occupied by Italy in 1936-41.

In history of Abrahamic religion of the world, Ethiopia that has 45 times quoted in the Bible was the first place where the first journey (Hijra) in the history of Islam took place. Addis Ababa, the capital of the country, is also known as the "capital and diplomatic hub of Africa" is also the center of many African-oriented international organizations such as the African Union, the Pan-African Trade Chamber. Even if Ethiopia is the country with the rapidly growing economy in Africa today, large part of its people live in hazardous conditions due to internal and external problems. Presently displaced people (more of children and women), illiteracy, drought and Famine are common features of the country. Hence, to reverse impoverished condition of Ethiopians based on research and development method, establishing ORDA is of great importance.

ORDA

Oda Research and Development Association

ORDA is an acronym of Oda Research and Development Association. Oda has meaningful value and respect in Ethiopia as is Çınar in Turkey. Oda and Çınar trees symbolize an important socio-political value in Ethiopia and Turkey respectively. The longevity and durability of these trees ties the past into the future, teaches people patience in life, wisdom of co-existence and being useful to each other.

ORDA primarily focuses on building human capital of Ethiopian students in Turkey. ORDA then directly undertakes projects and programs, which can bring changes that could have long-term effects in improving the lives of the needy communities in Ethiopia. ORDA is also aimed to play an ambassadorial role between Turkey and Ethiopia.

Ethiopia and Turkey Networking

  • Facilitating the efforts of strengthening partnerships between Ethiopia and Turkey in all aspects of developments.
  • Supporting and promoting indigenous excellence in partnership with academic institutions and other stakeholders.

Technology Transfer

  • The main reason for the poverty in Ethiopia is not the scarcity of resource. To the contrary, it is due to mismanagement of resources, lack of skills and know-how of how to use the resource as well as unfair control of vast majority of the resource in the hands of few. To solve these problems the focuses of ORDA will be on building human capital that can transform country by using all the useful skills and expertise they develop during their stay in Turkey. ORDA plans to directly undertake projects and programs which bring changes that could have long term effects in improving the lives of the needy communities in Ethiopia.

Humanitarian Services

Water

  • One out of ten cannot reach clean water to drink in this world. When it comes to Ethiopia it gets worse. Drought, rapid population growth, and pollution threaten the water resources. In addition, poverty and lack of know how for getting clean water created more humanitarian crises in Ethiopia.
  • We give services related to digging clean drinking water wells.

Orphan

  • In Ethiopia due to social and political crises, there are many children who lost their parents, and cannot afford means of living.
  • We aim to sponsor individual orphans or support orphanage projects.

Health Care and Education

  • People in Ethiopia are striving under difficult circumstances due to unavailability for sheltering and health, which are among the basic needs of human being. Recently many peoples are left houseless due to internal displacement following social and political instability in the country. Healthcare centers and hospitals constructed in regions suffering from war or poverty can be lifesaving.
  • The inadequacy of financial resources, lack of school buildings and physical conditions, lack of teachers, and teaching material have a negative impact on the lives and future of people in poverty-stricken countries such as Ethiopia.

Emergency Relief

  • Millions of people in Ethiopia are victims of internal war, conflict, natural disaster, epidemic disease, poverty and drought. While we intervene in emergencies, we aim to bring service to the regions in Ethiopia in terms of healthcare, food, shelter and education.

ORDA aspires to see competent human capital who can play active roles in creating a resilient society that can solve its own problems and challenges.

— Our Vision

ORDA’s mission is empowering Ethiopians through various research, transferable skills and capacity building programs to build better human capital and economy.

— Our Mission
  • Commitment in serving peoples
  • Openness and willingness to changes
  • Respect and emphatic understanding
